Technical Fibre Products Ltd (TFP) and AGC AeroComposites (AGC) today announced that they will debut a new lightweight composite solution for aircraft fuel systems at the Farnborough International Airshow. This joint development, patent pending, enables the electrical resistance of composite components to be precisely controlled and has the potential to provide a weight saving of up to 200 kg per aircraft.
FARNBOROUGH, England, July 14, 2014 -- AGC AeroComposites and ATK (NYSE: ATK) announced a teaming agreement today creating an aerospace and defense industry resource spanning the full scope and scale of aerospace composites structures. Under terms of the agreement, the companies will team to pursue content on both commercial and military platforms with an emphasis on tape lay and hand lay-up solutions.
AGC AeroComposites is responding to the growing demand in the aerospace and defense industry by partnering with key customers to provide lifecycle solutions and affordable integrated composites. Fueled by growth in the civil and defense market, the use of composites is forecasted to grow at 8.5% per year. Evidence of this increase can be seen with the composite content on modern aircraft growing from 10% on the Boeing 777 to over 50% on the Boeing 787.
